At Haven Nook School, we believe in encouraging our students to tap into their creative passions and make their mark on the world. That’s why we are thrilled to introduce you to Year 9 student Evie, and staff member Anne-Marie, two individuals who are doing just that!

Their first project was a stunning collection of floral scatter cushions, created using beautiful, heavy linen fabrics in a range of summery floral designs. In just over an hour, Evie and Anne-Marie transformed the fabrics into beautifully crafted cushions, cutting them to size, folding, sewing, shaping, and stuffing to produce a handful of masterpieces.
These cushions found their way to Room 2 and were styled with green foliage and flower accessories in the sunny window seat, ready for their photo shoot.
But this is only the beginning. Evie and Anne-Marie have taken on a new project to upcycle donated fabrics and unwanted materials into beautiful textile pieces to decorate Haven Nook. They are on a mission to create a warm and welcoming space, filled with lavish homely furnishings..and more scatter cushions! We cannot contain our excitement to witness the magical transformation of Haven Nook through Evie’s one-of-a-kind artistic vision.
Upcycling fabrics and materials to create beautiful pieces like the scatter cushions not only helps to reduce waste and protect the environment, but it also provides a unique opportunity for creative expression. Working 1-to-1 on art projects and collaborations, like the one between Evie and Anne-Marie, not only enhances their skills but also boosts their confidence.
By learning new techniques and applying them to real-life projects, such as the stunning scatter cushions, students like Evie gain a sense of pride and accomplishment in their work. These hands-on experiences help to foster a love of learning and creativity, and can inspire young people to pursue their passions with confidence and determination. At Haven Nook School, we believe in nurturing the whole child, and projects like these scatter cushion creations are a testament to that philosophy.
With their passion for interior design and love of working with textiles, we can’t wait to see what beautiful creations Evie and Anne-Marie come up with next! Their collaboration is truly inspiring, as they transform unwanted materials into something functional and beautiful, all while reducing waste and making Haven Nook School a more inviting place!
